Heat treatment is a one-and-done event for the existing infestation, but bed bugs can be re-introduced to any home by luggage, second-hand furniture or a visiting guest. Here's how to stay clear.
Week one
Use the property exactly as normal. Sleep in your own bed. The treatment has killed every life stage in the property — there are no eggs to hatch, no nymphs to grow into adults. Any 'bug' you think you see in the first few days is almost certainly a piece of debris kicked up by the heat or a non-pest insect; bag it in a clear ziplock and send us a photo.
Encasements
We recommend bed bug-proof mattress and pillow encasements after treatment. They make any future re-introduction visible immediately and dramatically reduce harbourage on the bed itself.
Travel hygiene
Most re-introductions come from holiday luggage. Inspect mattress seams in hotels before unpacking, keep suitcases off the bed, and hot-wash all clothes on return at 60°C or higher. A few minutes of habit prevents months of trouble.
What to watch for
- Fresh bites that develop after the second week post-treatment.
- New dark spots on bedding.
- Cast skins or live bugs.
If you see any of these, ring us. Our 6-month re-treatment guarantee covers a return visit at no charge if bed bugs reappear during the guarantee period.
