Heat treatment requires far less preparation than a chemical spray, but a few small things on the morning of the visit make the day faster and the treatment more effective. Here's a short checklist.
Items to remove from the property
- Pressurised aerosol cans (deodorant, hairspray, cooking sprays).
- Wax candles — they melt at our treatment temperatures.
- Vinyl records and unmounted photographic film.
- Chocolate, soft cheese and any temperature-sensitive food in cupboards.
- Live houseplants (a hot afternoon won't kill them but they'll wilt).
- Pets — cats, dogs, rabbits, fish, reptiles all out for the day.
Items to bag for separate treatment
Any item that has been close to the infestation — bedding, recently-worn clothing, soft toys — should go into sealed bin liners and either be hot-washed at 60°C or placed in our portable heat chamber on the day. We'll bring the chamber with us.
What to leave exactly where it is
Mattresses, beds, sofas, wardrobes, books, electronics (laptops, TVs, phones), most artwork and most furniture all stay in place. Heat penetrates better when items aren't packed into a corner, so we may rearrange things slightly during the visit.
Access and parking
Our team needs around six hours on-site. We'll bring our own power supply but need parking close to the property if possible. Leave a key or arrange a meeting time first thing in the morning — we'll handle the rest.
